This is a great square dance tune in A that I got from Bob Holt. It makes liberal use of the chords and open strings to let the fiddle really ring out.
Bob got this tune from the great Nashville fiddler Tommy Jackson. It appears on the LP Square Dance Tonight! – another of those “square dances without calls” LPs that made Tommy a favorite of fiddlers all over North America back in the 50s and 60s.
Here’s Bob totally tearing it up at dance in Cabool, MO, back in 1997.
Tryout these instructional videos I put together from a workshop at Gryphon Strings in Palo Alto, California on December 13, 2015. Patt Plunkett on piano.
