Wednesday Tune Fix: Little Burnt Potato

This little jig from Canada we first heard back in the 70s from two sources. Locally in Missouri it was played by Cyril Stinnett of Oregon, MO, in the Missouri Valley area. Here’s his rendition from the MSOTFA Bandcamp page. It also appears on the infamous K-TEL’s 25 Old Tyme Fiddle Hits LP.

Fiddler Colin J. Boyd from Nova Scotia is credited with this tune – or at least having on the earliest recordings. Thanks to YouTuber Cornhill Media for this post.

It was recorded by a throng of other Canadian fiddlers in the 50s & 60s on LP, notably Don Messer, Ned Landry and Graham Townsend.

I placed the notation to this tune on my “Dots” page. http://www.charliewalden.com/Dots.htm.

This little playlist from a workshop we did at Elderly Instruments in Lansing, MI, in 2014, will get you going.
