Possum is joined by his sidekick Wichita. We play a few tunes, most notably the Belvidere Hornpipe. We also discuss our recent trip to Clifftop, try to annoy “Butters the Cat”, Un-box a package that arrives from Amazon during the broadcast, listen to some calls from the hotline and finish off with an old quadrille.Read more

Square Dance 78s, Solomon Family, Calvin Vollrath, Teddy Roosevelt
In this exciting episode your host plays more 78s from the “Square Dance Box”. This is a heavy metal case of square dance records from the 1950s that Patt’s mother picked up at a thrift shop in Sarasota some years back. There a passle of 78 rpm records in it plus notes and set lists used by a real working Western-Style square dance caller. Quite a find. I’ll also play you a little bit of the Solomon family and a cut from a new CD by Calvin Vollrath’s I picked up at Pembroke last year.
BTW, our good friends Heidi and Chris Germain were in town last weekend from Philly. We had a nice visit and even threw a little music party Saturday night. So here’s a special shoutout to them.
It’s another exciting episode of Possum’s Big Fiddle Show: Happy Wheatland Edition. The Possum is nestled in by the piney woods in the performer’s campground with Patt Plunkett on piano, Mike “Wichita Slim” Miller on guitar and our special guest Chris Germain on fiddle.Read more
People said it couldn’t be done – like the moon landing (which actually was done on a hurriedly assembled movie set in El Segundo – but that’s a topic for another podcast). Still, here they are – Get Up in the Cool’s Cameron DeWhitt and Possum’s Big Fiddle Show’s Charlie Walden squaring of before your very eyes and/or ears.
This is the crossover podcast extravaganza of the millenium. There’s patter on everything from beer to Garth Brooks to Bluegrass and back to beer, too! Recorded right on the spot at the 2018 Brandywine Revival Festival on June 16, 2018.
We cut down on some banjo & fiddle duets, too. You’ll hear an Ozarks hoe-down Humansville, Kenny Baker’s Brandywine, Pete McMahan’s versions Talk to Dinah & Virginia Darlin’, a Canadian import (duty-free!) Whiskey Before Breakfast and lastly Buddy Thomas’ Turkey in the Pea Patch.Read more
My guest is long-time musical ally and starvation box devotee Mike “Wichita Slim” Miller. He’s coming to you live via Skype from Elkins, WV. We share an adult beverage, take a call on the “hotline” from a listener in the frozen wilds of Ontario, reminisce about our fabled 2012 five boroughs Guinness tour, and try to play a few tunes together across the the internet.Read more
